Banned Books Week September 22-26 2014

The week of September 22 to the 26 was Banned Books Week. Banned Books week brings the awareness to celebrate the freedom to read by drawing attention to banned books. We can celebrate the right to read books as we please. A few of the books that are banned includes the Harry Potter series, the Fifty Shades of Grey series,  and The Hunger Games series. What are some of your favorite books that you read for pleasure? Are they banned?

Most of the books that we read for pleasure are considered banned books, but some books that we have read in our school curriculum are also banned. For example, we read To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton during High School. What makes it a “banned” book? And why would we be able to read those books in school when they are considered banned?
